WIFI FAQ

You can connect to your residence’s WIFI network using the WIFI password that you can get from the residence management office.

In most cases, the relevant student WiFi network will be named: serve-it.co.za

There is no limit on the number of devices that you can connect to the Serve IT WiFi.

  • Find answers to common problems.

Contact the residence management office. They will get in touch with Serve IT.

Firstly, you need to confirm that the power is on at your residence and that the power supply to a specific part of the residence has not been interrupted. The WIFI system needs electricity in order to function.

If you have confirmed that there is electricity supply to the entire residence, then you can log a support issue on our web page. If you are unable to access our web page, please contact the residence management office. They will get in touch with Serve IT or log the query on your behalf.

You can consider purchasing a USB WIFI Adapter. This is a small and relatively inexpensive device that can be purchased at www.takealot.com or any local computer store.

Always first try the following:

  1. Restart your device a few times and see if the problem is still there.
  2. Switch off the WiFi on your device for about 10 seconds and then switch the WiFi on again.
  3. Check with your fellow students if they are experiencing the same issue. If your fellow students experience the same issue, it could be a network problem. Please report this on our support web page.

If you are the only student experiencing the issue, then there is most likely a problem with your device. Serve IT is unable to intervene when there is an issue isolated to a student’s specific device (e.g., cellphone or laptop).
